The North Fork of The Smith River
SMITH RIVER FISHING : Perfect for anglers wanting to be challenged.
The North Fork is similar in many regards to the main Smith, however the water here moves more swiftly as it flows down out of the mountains. It’s primarily a brooke trout stream but boasts some large rainbows as well due to the reservoir it feeds further downstream. The water temperature is always cool, and the average fish ranges between 10-14 inches; some Rainbows will exceed 20 inches. Casting can be more challenging here. Occasional brush cover and tight spots make a 3-4 weight 7-8.5 foot rod the best choice. Wildlife is abundant along the North Fork. You’ll see deer and elk as you fish this 4 mile stretch of stream.
